First Holy Communion

Every year we are delighted to prepare up to 100 children for these Sacraments. The usual age for preparation is school Years 3-6. Anyone in Year 10 or above who have not yet received their First Holy Communion can join the Confirmation group and receive their First Holy Communion and Confirmation at the same time. We are not currently able to prepare children in Years 7-9 for First Holy Communion and would advise that if your child is in one of these school years and hasn't yet made their First Holy Communion they wait until Year 10 and make their First Holy Communion when they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The First Holy Communion programme starts in January and runs through to the summer. It is a distance course done in your own time at home with an online session and worksheets. There is an attendance sheet to bring to mass each month along with the completed worksheets to show the priest who will have a short chat about the session content and sign the attendance sheet. We plan to get together for an enrolment mass in January, the Sacrament of Reconciliation Service in March and a family mass in May. First Holy Communion masses will be in June or July.

If you have a baptised child who would like to be part of the preparation programme for these wonderful Sacraments, then look out in the newsletter for enrolment details from July each year. Enrolment closes at the end of October: we cannot accept children after 31st October, so late applicants will have to apply the following year.

The co-ordinator for this programme is Eddie Bishop. His contact details will be available in the newsletter when applications for the course are being taken.

Please return the completed form by email to basildon@brcdt.org with a copy of the baptism certificate (if needed - see form for details).
